At a recent planning for an Earth Day event at a high school, this question came up "What can 1 person do?". I've noticed that many people are feeling that the problem of Global Warming is too "big" to solve. And how can any 1 person solve it. So I hope this answer helps:
"We are all placing our drops (energy savings/buying green/3rs) in a big bucket . . . with the knowledge and intention that we will fill it." I know it's hard to think that 1 person can stop global warming and that can be an immobilizing thought. So I'm asking you to change that thought and focus your energy and what you can do. There is a difference in "how you will feel through the doing" that naturally empowers you away from the idea that "it doesn't matter".
So here is 1 idea that will help "Your Drops Fill the Bucket":
1. Create an "e-cycleunity": If you are friendly with a few neighbors and don't have curb side recycling, create a community drop off day. Have a rotation of volunteers that will drop off to the local recycling center, maybe weekly or bi-weekly. By doing this you will be able to recycle more items than the blue bins will pick-up. Co-ordinate these trips so you aren't going out of your way, maybe to or from work, before a baseball game, before the gym etc. The great thing with this idea is that you aren't alone, you've taken your drop and added it with others. (http://www.earth911.org/ shows where you can recycle locally).
If you have creative ideas that have worked for you and are simple to implement we would love to hear them.
